Two Weeks: My Progress

So, it’s been a solid two weeks since I’ve started on this new journey with Beachbody and Shakeology and I just wanted to check in with my progress, how I’m feeling, and all those nitty gritty details that I’m sure all…like….5 of you who read this blog will be eager to hear.

Here’s the scoop…

Energy Levels

So far, so good! I was sick for a while before I started this, as those of you who read this blog will know, so my energy levels have been pretty nonexistent for a little while there. I do feel like I have more energy now than I did before though. I’m not as tired when I wake up in the morning and I don’t show up for work grasping at a coffee cup like my life depends on it. That’s not to say I’m not still drinking coffee, because I totally am, but I just feel like I have more energy to get my through the day and I do feel healthier. Must be all those vitamins and probiotics in the shakes I suppose. Either way, I’m feeling pretty good, which I haven’t felt in a while. All good things!

Eating Habits

I’ve been following the program that came with my first Beachbody starter pack pretty closely. That means using the portion control containers and drinking Shakeology and getting workouts in. My eating habits are definitely one of my biggest challenges when it comes to weight loss. You see, I love food. I mean, love food. My other blog, Art Travel Eat Repeat, has the word EAT right there in the title. So, you know I’m serious. That being said, I’m enjoying the flexibility that comes with using the containers rather than something more rigid. Do I sometimes want to drown myself in a pool of extra large pizzas and nachos? Yes. I’m not going to lie…but I’m also enjoying the health benefits of eating more nutritious foods and that’s what is keeping me motivated.

Hunger Levels

Since I’ve counted calories before, I expected to be STARVING. But…I’m not. With the combination of the shakes in the morning and eating real, nutritious foods (think chicken, lots of veggies…that sort of thing), I’m not starving at the end of the day, which is huge for me. For somebody who might as well have HANGRY as her middle name, trust me when I say that this is a big deal.

Proper nutrition can do a lot for your hunger levels. I’m not going to say it wasn’t tough for the first few days, because it was. All I wanted was to drown myself in a pile of cheesy Mexican food and never come out again, but I stuck it out and I’m starting to get into the routine. I’m feeling less hangry. I’m craving things that I probably shouldn’t be eating much less. The sweetness of the shakes in the morning satisfy my sweet tooth, and that helps a lot. As for my salt tooth? (famously more furious than my sweet tooth). Not too bad, actually. I haven’t caved yet, which is an accomplishment for me…and I’m no longer having visions of pizza slices dance in my head while I sleep, so something must be working.

Weight Loss

So far I’ve lost three pounds. Not a whole lot and nobody can tell the difference by looking at me, but three pounds in two weeks is a great start! I know from past experiences that slow and steady wins the race, so I’m in it for the long haul. Three pounds down, more than I care to admit left to go, but it’s a start. Consistency is the key and I’m determined to meet my goals. I’ll keep checking in!

Workouts

I’ve been consistent with these for the first time in a long time. I’ve been doing a lot of different things depending on what I’m in the mood for, what my schedule for the day is like, and what I’m feeling up to. I’m a little sore from some weight training at the moment, so cardio will be on the horizon for the next day or two. I’ve been doing a mixture of streaming yoga videos from Beachbody on demand as well as some outdoor workouts like running and some classes at 24 Hour Fitness since I like the group training aspect.

Fitness Level

Honestly? Still bad, hahaha. What do you expect…I’ve been sick, eating crap, and laying around on the couch for a while before starting this. I’m feeling a little more motivated and a little more energetic though, and I’m making a push to keep going no matter what. Every day I do something active. That’s my goal. Some days that active thing might just be a walk. Other days it might be an intense workout. But every day I’m doing something and that will help raise my fitness level over time. I know. I’ve done it before (and sadly undid all my progress later)…this time I’ll do it again and I’ll make the change permanent.

Motivation Level

Feeling pumped for the first time in forever! I get pretty depressed when I don’t work out. Then I eat crap. There’s a momentum to it. I’m feeling the momentum swing the other way now and I’m really into making a change in my life. I’m feeling happy and excited and stoked about all the positive changes that are starting and will continue to happen in my life.

Monthly Challenge

My Beachbody upline coach (i.e. the person who signed me up) added me to her monthly challenge group, which has been wonderful. I’ve been happy to have a group of people who are holding me accountable. I feel like I need to check in every day with my progress because if not, they will know! Seriously, it helps. It helps knowing somebody is watching and monitoring my progress. So, all good things.


Well, that’s the update. That’s where I’m at. I’m happy with the direction things are going in and I’m excited about what’s to come.

P.S. I know I’m talking about Beachbody and Shakeology a lot right now. I’m just excited something is working for me. You know how it goes when you’re excited about something, right? Oh well, I ramble on.
