Back from the dead.

No, I haven’t become a zombie. *shudder*.

After what seems like an eternity, I’m finally crawling out from the depths of that awful illness I had and working on getting my life back on track. So here’s a recap of what’s been going on…

I had the flu, a doctor confirmed, and I was pretty sick with chest infection, sinus infection, fever, and all that fun stuff for a little while. The real issue, however, is that after I recovered from everything else, the chest and sinus infection remained. Nearly three weeks went by and I was in a miserable state of shortness of breath and coughing up disgusting phlegm. TMI? Whatever.

After it became apparent that I wasn’t going to recover from this on my own, I made a doctor appointment and got prescribed some antibiotics. I generally don’t prefer taking antibiotics, but I didn’t want this thing to turn into pneumonia, so it is what it is.

The antibiotics are doing their job and I’m feeling better every day. Yesterday I finally felt good enough to go to the gym after work and do a brisk WALK for a couple miles on the treadmill. My lungs aren’t 100% yet and running isn’t quite possible just yet, but will be soon. I plan on doing this every night until I’m able to run again, and I hope to be well enough to return to CrossFit next week. It’s been a long while since I’ve been to CrossFit and I’m looking forward to returning.

In other news, I’ve been adhering to a strict 1500 calorie per day diet since Sunday and I’m already seeing results…down 2lbs…woo hoo! My plan is 1500 calories per day, except on CrossFit days or days of similar HARD workouts when I will eat a higher protein 1700 calorie diet. Counting calories is what worked for me before, so I’m going to do it again.

My food choices are mostly healthy and balanced, but by focusing on calories instead of specific foods or macros, I can have the occasional treats that keep me sane. If I want to have a cookie, I can have a cookie. If I want to have tacos or pizza, fair game. The thing is that those items are a lot of calories, so it keeps my portions of them small and relegated to treats only. It worked for me in 2010 until I went off that kind of program (and then I went on an om nom nomathon and well…you know). It will work for me again.

My plan is to keep doing this until I get back to my ideal shape, then just monitor myself. If I gain a couple pounds, I’ll get strict again until I lose it. For now, however, I just need to be consistently strict with myself for a while…so that’s my plan.

Anyway, it’s good to be back from the dead.
